About Artist
Hallgreenboy is an independent British songwriter and artist creating music that blends heartfelt songwriting with atmospheric, melodic and often genre crossing production. His songs explore emotion, relationships, identity, hope, resilience and the strange, sometimes beautiful moments that shape everyday life. With a strong connection to storytelling, Hallgreenboy approaches each song as its own world, moving between pop, rock, synth driven sounds, acoustic influences and more experimental ideas. The music is personal without being confined to one style, with an emphasis on memorable melodies, emotional depth and distinctive lyrical themes. Hallgreenboy is also the musical identity of author and songwriter S C Hamill. Creativity runs through generations of the family, with his father having performed as a singer and musician across the working men's clubs of northwest England for more than 35 years. Hallgreenboy is also cousin to singer Limahl, best known as the lead singer of Kajagoogoo and for his international solo career.
The Story Behind the Music
“Under American Skies” is a song that I wrote in 2012 and completely forgot about until I found the lyrics in an email to a friend recently. It is inspired by the idea of looking at America from both a personal and cinematic perspective. The song explores distance, dreams, freedom, love and the feeling of being drawn towards somewhere that exists partly in reality and partly in the imagination. I wanted the production to capture that sense of movement and atmosphere, creating a song that feels expansive while keeping the focus on the melody and lyrics. It combines contemporary pop songwriting with a cinematic quality, giving the listener the feeling of travelling through a landscape while reflecting on the emotions attached to it. The song is ultimately about the places we imagine, the experiences we chase and the stories we create around them.
Creative Inspiration
“Under American Skies” was inspired by the fascination that America can create through its music, landscapes, culture and sense of possibility. I was drawn to the contrast between the real America and the America we build in our imagination through films, music, photographs and stories. That idea of distance and longing became the starting point for the song. I wanted to capture the feeling of looking towards somewhere far away and imagining the people, places and experiences that might be waiting there. The inspiration was therefore less about describing one particular place and more about capturing a feeling: freedom, adventure, romance, distance and the desire to experience something beyond the familiar.
Vision & Goals
I hope to build Hallgreenboy into a distinctive independent music identity with an audience that reaches beyond the UK. My goal is to release original music that connects with people emotionally, while continuing to explore different sounds, genres and approaches to songwriting. I want my music to reach as many listeners as possible through streaming platforms, music communities, playlists, media and live opportunities. I also hope to create songs that people remember, return to and find something of themselves in. Above all, I want to keep developing as a songwriter and artist, take creative risks and build a body of work that reflects my own ideas rather than fitting into a single formula.
